Location: Thompson, Manitoba Employer: Shared Health – Thompson General Hospital

Salary: $31,949 – $38,155 per year

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Charge Technologist or designate, the Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) assists the laboratory in sample triaging, accessioning, and specimen processing. The MLA performs basic routine procedures per established protocols, including phlebotomies according to departmental policy. The MLA maintains a safe environment, complies with quality assurance programs, and upholds accreditation standards. Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health, current policies and procedures, and applicable legislation.

Experience
  • Previous related experience preferred.
Education
  • Completed Grade 12 or equivalent, Manitoba Standards, is required.
  • Completion of a Medical Laboratory Assistant program is preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant Certification preferred.
Qualifications And Skills
  • Windows computer environment required.
  • Microsoft Office programs preferred.
  • Medical terminology preferred.
  • Sterile techniques and routine practices preferred.
  • 50–55 wpm keyboarding skills an asset.
  • Apply basic math concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Follow oral and written instructions precisely with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills required in English.
