Position Overview

We are adding mid to senior Mechanical Engineers to our Kiewit Industrial team at our Calgary Alberta location. In this role, you will design mechanical systems for various industrial facility projects in the US and Canada. As a Mechanical Engineer with us, you will work on projects from the conceptual stage through construction, developing conceptual and detaild mechanical design of systems, sizing and selecting equipment and components for those systems, and working with vendors and procurement to select that equipment for the facility. We are looking for engineers with 3 to 15 years of experience performing mechanical design or process engineering design, that have delivered specifications for equipment, vendor selection, P&ID's, line, valve, pump and piping sizing, developed equipment lists, and performed calculations for piping and other components and comfortable working with REVIT.

Location

This position is located at our Calgary AB office. We will provide relocation to Calgary, from other areas of Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Provide design, coordination, and oversight of various mechanical systems typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, process piping, conveying systems, dust collection, general plant/facility water, compressed air, steam, gas systems, cooling systems, chillers, Cooling distribution units (CDU's), Computer room air handling units (CRAH), fan walls and containment walls for air cooling. Mechanical system design includes preparing calculations for both pressurized and gravity driven systems to size lines, material selection, and correct Code requirement application.
  • Deliver project design calculations and equipment specifications typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities including, but not limited to, bulk solids conveyors, dust collection equipment, bins/tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, and other process equipment.
  • Coordinate and communicate all aspects of the project’s mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams; including the management and oversight of third party engineering.
  • Review project contracts, customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual documents and incorporate into the design as required to ensure the project meets or exceeds project goals.
  • More Senior Engineers should expenct to lead projects, provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with the assigned design managers and project managers, to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical discipline activities.
  • Engage with design partners (both internal and external) including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task and review work progress and results.
  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for biogas, bulk solids material handling, water and wastewater treatment, pump stations and pipeline conveyance, groundwater remediation, stormwater recycling, and other industrial facilities.
  • Generate design deliverables such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, process simulations, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI’s, providing creative design solutions, etc.
  • More Senior Engineers will develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.
  • Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of industry standards and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university.
  • P.eng preferred or in process of obtaining P.Eng.
  • A minimum of 3 years of industry related engineering experience performing functions as outlined above. Prefer individuals with Water, or Wastewater treatment experience, Campus/Industrial Energy experience, Data Centers, Miner processing, or other similar facilities. Experience performing relevant calculations, developing as-builts, P&ID's, equipment lists, line lists, valve lists, and system descriptions for BOP systems required
  • Experience leading an engineering and design team as well as leading projects, is required at the more senior level.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent). Experience with REVIT preferred. #LI-JB1
