Mechanical Engineer

The Winnipeg Production Unit (PU) specializes in the development and production of the Sandvik DU product line.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, updating, generating new components and system designs as directed and needed, plans layout and design plans including project start-up. Communicates internally within all levels of the organization and externally with vendors. Generates new machine design parts and assemblies in accordance with standard engineering design and fabrication practices.

What you will be doing

  • Participate as a team member in all team project activities including but not limited to:

    • Develop designs that meet customer requirements while factoring in manufacturing constraints and assembly methods

    • Ensure all designs comply with quality standards and industry regulations.

    • Manage individual workload and track progress to meet internal deadlines.

    • Create and release technical drawings in line with internal standards and industry best practice.

    • Release and maintain BOMs to support production

    • Support the troubleshooting of issues on the shop floor or in the field to determine root cause analysis and provide solutions.

    • Support the development of technical publications

    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and engage with vendors for design clarifications or approvals.

  • Ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to work safely in the working environment. Always ensuring to work in compliance with Sandvik’s safety management program.

  • Other duties as assigned

What you will bring along

  • Graduate of an accredited engineering or technology program

  • Eligibility for EGM or CTTAM registration

  • 5 years of experience in a design role with a background in mechanical, hydraulic and power train system is considered an asset

  • CAD modeling experience (NX experience is considered an asset)

  • Familiarity with welded designs, hydraulic, pneumatic & compressed air systems, power trains, control systems, machine design.

  • Mining background would be an asset but not required

  • Working familiarity in Project Management/ISO environments is considered an asset.

  • Detail orientated and capable of interpreting technical documentation.

  • Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills.

  • Highly organized, self-motivated and able to manage tasks independently.
