Mechanical Design Engineer – Residential Buildings

A residential development organization is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of mechanical systems for residential building projects. This role involves close collaboration with internal teams and external consultants and provides exposure to projects from early design through construction.

Responsibilities
  • Design and support mechanical systems for residential building projects, including HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems
  • Prepare and review mechanical calculations, equipment selections, drawings, schematics, and specifications
  • Support the development of design, tender, and construction documentation
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines
  • Participate in BIM-based coordination using Revit and support AutoCAD-based documentation as required
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submissions and provide technical input
  • Participate in site reviews and support construction-stage coordination and issue resolution
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Support project schedules, quality standards, and internal review processes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design and documentation practices
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation in Ontario
  • Several years of experience in mechanical building systems design
  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, drainage, and fire protection systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, including OBC, CSA, ASHRAE, and NFPA
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Additional Considerations
    • Experience supporting residential building projects is considered an asset
    • Exposure to construction coordination and commissioning activities is an asset
    • Additional language skills may be considered an asset

Compensation Transparency

The expected compensation range for this role is $75,000 – $110,000 annually, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
