Position Overview

The Manager of Documentation is responsible for overseeing the creation, management, and maintenance of Business Operations and program-related documentation. This role leads a professional team of technical writers, process architects, and translators to ensure documentation is accurate, consistent, accessible, and aligned with established organizational standards.

This role focuses on implementing documentation and knowledge management practices, managing team execution, and supporting Operations leaders through high-quality, well-governed documentation and communication assets.

Essential Job Functions
Leadership and Team Management
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a professional team of technical writers, process architects, and translators.
  • Foster a collaborative, productive work environment focused on quality and accountability.
  • Set team goals aligned with Business Operations priorities and manage performance through regular feedback and reviews.
  • Support professional development and skill growth within the documentation team.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Implement and maintain documentation management systems, processes, templates, and standards.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of user manuals, technical guides, process documentation, and translated materials.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, current, properly classified, and accessible.
  • Manage document lifecycle activities, including review, approval, publishing, maintenance, and archival.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner with program managers, project managers, and Operations leaders to understand documentation needs and priorities.
  • Collaborate with Directors and department leaders to support operational initiatives through effective documentation.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for documentation execution within assigned programs or functions.
Quality Assurance & Standards
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and adherence to established documentation standards.
  • Review and approve documentation produced by the team.
  • Provide guidance and corrective feedback to address quality gaps and improve deliverables.
Process Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Identify and implement improvements to documentation workflows, tools, and team processes.
  • Resolve day-to-day documentation challenges related to prioritization, quality, tooling, or resourcing.
  • Apply industry best practices where appropriate to improve efficiency and effectiveness within defined standards.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support Business Operations initiatives by ensuring documentation and knowledge assets remain accurate and aligned with current processes.
  • Provide status updates and reporting on documentation deliverables, risks, and team performance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Job Requirements
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Communications, Information Technology, or relevant technical experience.
Experience
  • Minimum 5–8 years of experience in documentation, technical writing, or knowledge management roles.
  • At least 1–3 years of experience managing or leading a professional documentation team.
  • Experience supporting operational, program, or business teams.
Skills
  • Strong people leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with documentation and content management tools.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Directors and department leaders.
