A leading malt processing company in Winnipeg is seeking a Malthouse Operator who will assist in daily operations at the malt-houses. Responsibilities include operating equipment, performing maintenance, and ensuring safety compliance. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma and mechanical or construction experience is preferred. This position requires teamwork, physical stamina, and the ability to work shifts, including weekends.

Job description

Reporting to the Malthouse Supervisor/ Process Manager, the Operator assists the daily operations in all stages of the process cycle for all malt-houses. The Malthouse Operator assists the Management team in the preparation of all materials, equipment, and tools required for each job, and works in close collaboration with other operators to ensure the production areas is organized.

  • Operates equipment and performs sanitation duties.
  • Performs minor repairs in the production area.
  • Performs maintenance work in a timely and efficiently manner.
  • Trouble shoots pump and piping problems.
  • Practices good housekeeping with daily upkeep of malt-houses and yard.
  • Competently operates electric tools and related hand tools and equipment.
  • Performs jobs from verbal instructions.
  • Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
  • May assist, lead and train, or instruct, others in the work.
  • Wear, and participate in the ongoing training of, the required PPE for this position.
  • Lead by example with integrity.
  • Other tasks and special projects as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Specific Requirements/Experience:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the practices, methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in the Malthouses.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Willingness to comply with safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
  • Ability to identify and implement effective courses of action to complete assigned work.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, follow instructions and provide feedback as required.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Must be able to work in a physical environment that requires standing, walking, crawling, keeling, bending, and sitting.
  • Ability to work on all shifts (Schedules are subject to change start/stop times as well as rotating schedules)
  • Ability to work on weekends, holidays & overtime

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Some type of mechanical experience or construction experience preferred.
  • Some experience with power tools.
  • Mechanical/ welding skills, an asset but it’s not needed
  • Safety sensitive position – pre-employment testing required through a third party supplier
