Job description

LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) Facilitators (CLB level 1-4) facilitate level-appropriate, Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) aligned English language lessons which increase client understanding of Canadian historical and social conventions, utilizing Portfolio Based Language Assessments (PBLA). Facilitators are also responsible for monitoring student progress, providing feedback, completing progress reports and holding conferences with learners.

Students are adult immigrants and refugees to Canada assessed at Canadian Language Benchmark Level's 0 to 3 (LINC levels 1 through 4) and approved to attend IRCC funded LINC classes.

Responsibilities
  • Using the CLB document, provide skill-building language and settlement lessons to adult immigrant and newcomer refugees to facilitate their social, cultural, economic and political integration into Canadian society;
  • Conduct ongoing and monthly needs assessments with students to determine themes, topics and outcomes in lesson planning;
  • Develop daily lesson plans and module plans to achieve CLB objectives;
  • Prepare lesson materials and deliver CLB aligned, task-based lessons consistent with the LINC program and monthly teaching goals;
  • Prepare and integrate appropriate tasks and Portfolio Based Learning Assessments (PBLA) into curriculum;
  • Monitor student progress and perform on‑going assessments based on PBLA;
  • Help to maintain student portfolios according to PBLA standards;
  • Incorporate reflective practices and provide ongoing, informal feedback to learners;
  • Complete an annual self‑assessment using the PBLA Practice Review framework and identify and complete an action plan;
  • Organize field trips, arrange for guest speakers and help to plan other socio‑cultural activities in the community;
  • Maintain up‑to‑date class records and submit any required reports or documents accurately and in a timely fashion;
  • Collaborate with other LINC Facilitators to share resources, contribute to program curricula and plan joint activities;
  • Keep abreast of current ESL and online teaching techniques and LINC program developments by participating in internal and external professional development opportunities;
  • Communicate with program administration about student and/or class issues; and
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
