A leading healthcare provider in Edmonton is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join their Pediatric Emergency unit. In this full-time role, you'll be vital in delivering patient-centered care, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Ideal candidates should have completed an accredited nursing program and hold current registration with the CLPNA. This position requires dedication to provide high-quality emergency nursing services, with preferences for recent experience in tertiary care settings. Competitive salary offered, ranging from $27.58 to $36.13 per hour.
The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. Licensed Practical Nurses within the Emergency department work in a state of the art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary health care team environment. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of Emergency at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. Working with us is about making a difference. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Preference will be given to applicants with recent nursing experience in a tertiary care facility Emergency Department. Preference will also be given to those candidates who possess recent acute/critical care experience in the last two years. Medication Administration via a Central Line (CVC, PICC, or IVAD) module completed in CLPNA Restricted Activities & Advanced Authorizations. Current Basic Life Support (BLS - Heart and Stroke AED Level C REQUIRED) - Healthcare Provider Registration. 2 years applicable med/surg experience may be considered. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.
Minimum 1 year emergency nursing experience. Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills required. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Strong interpersonal and problem‑solving skills. Must be able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur. Responsible to provide proof of active registration with the CLPNA and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment.
