Qualifications

  • You must have a Grade XII education or equivalent.
  • In addition, you must have a Certificate in Aircraft maintenance Engineering.
  • Candidates must have exceptional knowledge of Gas Turbine Engines operations.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience maintaining gas turbines is required.
  • Experience in leading industrial teams in a Generating station setting is an asset.
  • You possess skills to provide mentorship and coaching.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain CT’s Safety and Environmental programs.
  • Work effectively as a member of the Gas Turbine Work Team.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC/NPCC standards related to Power Production.
  • Participate in regulatory training.
  • Perform maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting on gas turbines.

Salary: $49.92 per hour, as per the NSPI/IBEW Collective Agreement

We are looking for a Leadhand Gas Turbine Operator/Technician to join our Power Production team. Reporting to the Combustion Turbines Superintendent, you will be responsible for performing and leading a team in routine mechanical, electrical, controls, and instrumentation maintenance, repair and troubleshooting on Pratt & Whitney, General Electric Gas Turbines and Auxiliaries within the Province.

As a Leadhand Gas Turbine Operator/Technician
  • You will be responsible in maintaining the CT’s Safety and Environmental programs.
  • You will work effectively as a member of the Gas Turbine Work Team and be capable of performing in a self-directed manner.
  • You will be an integral member of Nova Scotia Power’s Team, working closely with the Energy Control Center, Regional Operations, other Power Generation groups, and various contractors and as well support all ISO 14001 processes and initiatives.
  • You will be temporarily assigned to other locations to assist other areas when required and will be expected to travel throughout the province.
  • You will be responsible for personal safety and that of your co‑workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations and Safe Work Practices.
  • You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on‑the‑job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • It is the responsibility of the Gas Turbine Operator Technician to ensure that NSPI is in compliance with all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to Power Production.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre‑employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
These skills will make you successful
  • You must have a Grade XII education or equivalent.
  • In addition, you must have a Certificate in Aircraft maintenance Engineering, or experience as an Industrial Electrician, or has a Red Seal Millwright and exceptional knowledge of LM 6000/PWGG4’s.
  • Candidates must have an exceptional knowledge of Gas Turbine Engines operations and its control systems.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience maintaining gas turbines as found in a generating station or similar industry is required.
  • Experience in leading strong industrial teams in a Generating station setting would be an asset.
  • You possess the skills to provide mentorship and coaching to others.
  • You have strong oral and written communication skills and interact well with others, as well as demonstrated leadership capabilities. You have strong computer skills and can deal with multiple tasks and often changing demands.
  • You are self‑motivated, adaptable to change and willing to work to contribute to the team environment and workplace.
  • You must be willing to travel if required within and outside of Canada for business.
  • The successful candidate must possess a valid NS driver´s license with a minimum of two years driving experience.
  • Your primarily residence must be located within 30 minutes of the defined headquarters, and you will be available for rotational standby duty.
  • You must possess a valid passport for air travel outside of Canada if required.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs. from the floor to waist level on an occasional basis and 67 lbs. on a minimal basis.
  • Able to carry 50 lbs. with both hands on an occasional basis, with the overall ability to carry 26 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Able to push and pull with whole and upper body strength up to 50 lbs. on occasional basis.
  • Perform static reaching at waist level frequently and from below waist to overhead level on an occasional basis.
  • Perform frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and neck flexion movements.
  • Perform occasional squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and neck extension and rotation movements.
  • Perform sitting, crawling, and twisting on a minimal basis.
  • Ability to perform fine finger manipulation and possess a simple to firm grasp while performing turning and pinching motions.
