About the Team

About the Location

PetSmart’s Canada Home Office (CHO) is home to approximately 50+ associates who work in departments such as Merchandising, Marketing, Demand Planning, Pricing, Space Planning, Digital/e-Commerce, Human Resources, Legal, IT and more. The small but mighty team at the CHO supports the operations of 160+ PetSmart stores in Canada and works closely with counterparts at PetSmart’s global corporate headquarters located in Phoenix, Arizona. We also share the Canada Home Office with our colleagues at PetSmart Charities of Canada—an independent, registered charity. PetSmart Charities of Canada is committed to making the world a better place for pets and all who love them by connecting pets with loving homes through adoption, improving access to veterinary care and supporting families in times of crisis with access to pet food, shelter, and emergency relief.

About the Job

SUMMARY

The Lead Human Resources Business Partner, Canada is a strategic business partner to the President of Canada, associates and leaders at the PetSmart Canada Home Office (CHO), Canada Regional Vice President, and the Canada field region. This position is a proactive, solution-oriented HR leader focused on driving value to the business. This value will be built on creating a foundation that factors in elements of organizational development, talent management, change management, organizational design, and creating business cases to prove out organizational initiatives and projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides strategic HR support to President of Canada, the Canada Home Office, Canada Regional Vice President, and the Canada field/store region.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and counsel on matters related to talent, organizational change, human capital, employee engagement, development, associate relations, and culture to CHO and field/store teams.
  • Assesses HR implications of the business strategy, identifies opportunities to further meet business needs, and designs solutions.
  • Is a credible coach and confidante to these leadership teams, as well as a strong associate advocate.
  • Develops and executes HR plans, processes, and programs aligned with business objectives, including organizational design, succession planning, talent management/acquisition, goal alignment, employee engagement and communications.
  • Provides guidance to leadership on talent management/development and succession planning to ensure the right talent capabilities and bench strength are developed to support the business.
  • Provides counsel on associate relations in partnership with Associate Relations, the business, and Legal.
  • Uses relevant business data to create justifications, provide metrics, and create business cases to communicate and/or develop strategic HR programs.
  • Serves as change management advocate to positively impact organizational effectiveness; provides guidance and coaching to leadership team on change management;
  • Drives and enables cultural transformation to support a progressive, diverse, and inclusive environment aligned with our values.
  • Collaborates with other HR partners and leaders to share best practices, critical needs issues, and initiatives.
  • Provides coaching and guidance to managers on organizational development related matters, including organizational analysis, strategy, structure and key processes to support organizational/business needs.
  • Coaches and advises on appropriate strategies, programs, and tools to enhance organizational performance and employee engagement.
  • Collaborates with senior colleagues and shared resources in the centers of expertise in order to apply sufficient HR resources to meet the business needs.
  • Maintains accurate employee data, headcount, and payroll information.
  • Facilitates development and team building sessions, such as new leader assimilations and leadership courses.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field from a four-year college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 - 10 years of experience supporting executive-level clients in an HR generalist capacity.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications.

  • Demonstrated experience in business partnership.

  • Strong talent management, leadership development, performance management, and org development experience.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple, conflicting priorities with a proactive approach and enterprise focus.
  • Demonstrated success in creating an environment of trust with clients where integrity is unquestioned; can effectively utilize negotiation and conflict resolution skills when needed.
  • Ability to analyze HR metrics for use in developing goals and driving key business strategies and objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing and communications skills with all levels of the organization required.
  • Maintains knowledge of Canada industry trends, employment legislation, and ensuring business compliance.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft software: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) or CHRL (Certified Human Resource Leader) certificate preferred.

In a standard work week, associates may work up to one remote “flex day” (with leader approval).
