Job Description
This is a Senior Technical Lead, Data Engineering position which is part of fast growing Wealth Management Technology & Solution (WMTS) Data Service team which will work with multiple RBC teams, upstream/downstream system consumers and services providers, 3rd party vendor partners, and operation partners. WMTS Data Service team focuses on the communication, collaboration, integration, automation and measurement of cooperation in order to provide a range of operational, business, technical, and system needs, to resolve business systems issues by recommending technology solutions that meet sponsor/stakeholder needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for WM Data applications.
- Partner with architect to create technology roadmap.
- Lead technical design, development, and implementation of applications.
- Implement effective automation monitoring/recovery strategies along with the build activities.
- Ensure code quality, performance, scalability, and responsiveness of applications.
- Participate in post-implementation reviews of application, development, and processes, continually working to create a learning environment by sharing with others.
- Work in an Agile team environment which is fast paced, fun and collaborative.
- Ensure the operating efficiency of existing application systems. Maintain records for the documentation of systems development and revisions.
- Work with different RBC internal teams for software feature delivery, support and bug fixes.
- Stay current and competitive by keeping up to date with the latest platform capabilities, security, performance, and reusability.
Qualifications
- Must-have: 5+ years of professional experience; 3+ years of experience building scalable production APIs/microservices (Python preferred).
- Strong expertise in GenAI and Machine Learning service integrations.
- Proficiency in data engineering: data cataloging, schema management, data quality, data lineage, data governance, ELT/ETL pipelines, and data streaming.
- Excellent business communication skills—able to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and vice versa.
- Experience collaborating with architects to brainstorm and design solutions that meet business requirements.
- Production-Level Software Development Experience: Proven track record of shipping and maintaining high-volume production applications.
- API-First Mindset: Strong emphasis on designing and developing robust, scalable APIs and data pipelines.
- Business Acumen & Cross-Functional Leadership: Ability to understand design requirements and lead technical initiatives across multiple teams, aligning business goals with technical solutions.
- Learning Agility: Staying current with emerging data engineering technologies, especially in GenAI and ML.
- Nice-to-have: Understanding of IT Standards, Methodologies, CMM & audit requirements.
- Agile experience.
- Financial institution knowledge.
