Job description

What Vista Does

Vista Projects is an integrated industrial engineering firm that helps clients navigate the digital transformation of their projects and operations. Our proven project execution process is based on a “single source of truth” model that eliminates the potential for inefficient engineering designs, cost overruns, and project delays.

Why We Do It

We believe the world needs industrial projects, and that intelligent engineering data can increase the likelihood of innovative solutions reaching the market. Over the years, our multi-disciplinary teams have conceptualized and designed some of the most challenging and successful industrial processing projects in the North American energy sector. Vista has established itself as a trusted industrial engineering partner for projects ranging from conceptual studies and pilots to large-scale commercial expansions.

Where We Work

The benefits of our approach apply to new asset developments and brownfield optimization projects across various industrial markets, including biofuels, produced water treatment, natural gas, and petrochemical processing. We are headquartered in Calgary with a satellite office in Houston.

What You Would Do in This Role

The Lead Civil and Structural Engineer leads a discipline engineering team in designing various aspects of energy industry projects from inception to completion. Duties include:

  1. Planning, allocating, and reviewing work programs, including updating ForecastWeb weekly to align with project demands and communicating changes through change management.
  2. Communicating with the Department Design Lead regarding designer resources and man-hour estimates.
  3. Preparing weekly progress reports covering work completed, upcoming tasks, and discipline needs.
  4. Updating the project schedule weekly, tracking task status, and coordinating with project management.
  5. Establishing scopes of work, man-hour estimates, schedules, and project priorities.
  6. Scheduling and expediting departmental work.
  7. Supervising an engineering team involved in design, planning, and development of engineering projects and proposals.
  8. Providing leadership and mentorship to the discipline engineering team, acting as an expert and guiding engineering solutions.
  9. Guiding the discipline team through project completion within schedule and budget constraints for high-technical-complexity projects.
  10. Assisting in negotiating critical engineering issues.
  11. Managing planning, scheduling, cost control, and technical conformance.
  12. Attending status meetings with clients, project teams, and suppliers.
  13. Coordinating activities with other departments and clients.
  14. Maintaining current knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  15. Assigning and reviewing work of discipline staff.
  16. Reviewing vendor/subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for compliance and adequacy.
  17. Ensuring adherence to Vista's Quality Management System (QMS).
  18. Ensuring designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client specifications.
  19. Approving discipline deliverables.
  20. Supporting the development and maintenance of discipline standards, checklists, and procedures.
  21. Managing change within discipline activities and their impacts.
  22. Supporting discipline man-hour estimates for proposals.
  23. Providing construction support.
  24. Authenticating documentation with a professional engineering stamp as required.
  25. Performing other duties as assigned.
