Job Summary

The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual to be responsible for the performance of all duties related to the handling and processing of the hospital linen. The laundry staff perform related duties associated with collection, processing (weighing & recording), distribution of soiled and clean linens and personal clothing. The laundry aide works with all members of the laundry department to provide excellent patient, staff care and support services. The work requires some physical dexterity as it requires walking, long periods of standing, bending, sitting, some lifting, pushing, pulling of carts and use of arms for folding.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or GED preferred.

• Ability to read, write and speak English and to be understood effectively.

• Ability to work individually and as part of a team environment.

• On the job training.

• Knowledge of WHMIS, policies and procedures.

• Class G driver’s license for some job routines.

• Previous work in a hospital is an asset but not essential.

• Demonstrated ability in problem solving and decision making.

• Work independently, reliable, punctual, team player and culturally sensitive.

Physical Demands

• Considerable walking, lifting, standing, pushing, pulling and bending

• Frequently required to lift up to 30lbs

• Good health and a demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis.

Job Duties
  • Understands and complies with policies and procedures of the SLMHC
  • Provides laundry services according to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Understand the Infection Control Policies and Procedures.
  • Understand the Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Supports the work of the laundry team in the provision of safe, patient centered support services.
  • Ensures that all hospital policies and procedures are followed at all times including all infection control standards that may apply.
  • Ensure the proper use of PPE at all times when sorting soiled linen.
  • Ensure proper handwashing at all times.
  • Responsible for loading and unloading of washers and dryers. Folding and distribution of clean linen and Extended Care resident personal clothing.
  • Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment, lint filter on dryers and through cleaning of entire laundry department.
  • Ensures replenishment of all linen carts on a scheduled and routine basis to all patient care areas.
  • Works collaboratively within a team environment both internally and externally.

  • The laundry team perform a variety of duties to ensure the safe and efficient collection, processing, distribution of soiled and clean linens throughout the hospital and ECU site.
  • Follows safety protocols including wearing PPE as required to ensure the safety of themselves and others to prevent the spread of infections.
  • Follows safe operating procedures for washers, dryers and folder.
  • Handling cleaning chemicals in a safe manner.
  • Maintains a clean and tidy work area.
  • Protects own health and the health of others by adopting safe work practices and reporting unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Time management
  • Laundry staff may need to adapt to a changing environment, schedule and work routine dependent on the daily need and patient safety. Performs other related duties as required.
  • Customer Service
  • Laundry staff must be able to provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, staff, internal and external partners. They must maintain a friendly and professional demeanor.
Salary

$23.86 – $25.84; an additional 18% in lieu of benefits in accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement.
