The opportunity

In this role, you will be responsible for the investigation, quantification, analysis, adjustment and settlement of complex property claims in excess of $250,000. The adjustment will be conducted in an efficient and effective manner to control the indemnity, spend and expenses without compromising the delivery of superior customer service. The role is crucial to maintaining our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.

What you’ll do:
  • Evaluate and manage personal lines complex claims from initial report to final settlement
  • Conduct thorough investigations, including site inspections and interviews with relevant parties
  • Assess damages and determine coverage based on policy terms
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers and other experts to gather necessary documentation and evidence
  • Negotiate settlements with customers, ensuring fair and equitable resolutions
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all claims activities while keeping all parties current on claim progress
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices to ensure compliance
  • Provide expert advice and support to policyholders throughout the claims process
  • Ensure all correspondence is completed in a timely and effective manner, including the creation of Critical Path Letters, Proof of Losses, and Reservation of Rights letters etc.
  • Responsible for data accuracy and issuing payments to vendors, insureds and experts
  • Responsible for recognizing questionable claims, subrogation and risk opportunities
  • Review case law to determine liability
What you’ll bring:
  • Thorough knowledge of the property insurance industry
  • At least 7-10 years of large loss adjusting experience
  • Solid experience in directly handling complex losses in excess of $250,000
  • Licenses for New Brunswick, Newfoundland and PEI are preferred (or willing to work towards it)
  • Strong construction knowledge and digital literacy
  • Strong case law knowledge in both civil code and common law provinces
  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of property coverage wordings
  • Some basic accounting skills
  • Superior communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
