About the Position

Lethbridge Polytechnic offers a student-centered environment that provides practical and innovative learning experiences. The Centre for Business, Arts, and Sciences (CBAS) delivers a range of certificate, diploma, university transfer, including Agriculture Science, Environmental Sciences, Indigenous Career Pathways, Business Administration, Administrative Office Professional, General Arts and Science, and Academic Upgrading, together with service courses to students in many other Lethbridge Polytechnic programs. The Centre seeks to recruit to the position of Equipment/Laboratory Technician III term contract to cover a leave.

The successful applicant would have the background, expertise, and proven ability in techniques associated with the science labs across a variety of fields. Working closely with the Lab Coordinator and faculty, the technician will aid in the delivery of laboratory and field components to students. Good organizational, verbal and written skills are essential.

Position Details

The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for Cousin’s Building labs, support the equipment room technician, and aiding in the delivery of laboratory and field components to students.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively to support a variety of labs, possess an ability to work effectively with all members of the CBAS community (staff, students and faculty) and make a positive contribution as a member of the Centre’s administrative team.

Required Qualifications
  • Diploma in environmental sciences/geography/forestry or aquatic biology or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year field experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communications as well as good mathematical skills.
  • Excellent understanding of field of Zoology, Forestry, Wildlife, Map & Air or Aquatic Biology.
  • Experience in field techniques associated with field requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate with a variety of internal and external clients in a professional manner.
  • Extensive knowledge and proficiency in MS Office Software including Excel, and Word is required.
  • Familiarity with Lethbridge Polytechnic’s values and culture, and a commitment to work towards our institutional goals with positivity and enthusiasm.
  • Full class 5 Driver’s license (Non-GDL)
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with preparation of standard chemical solutions and chemical safety.
  • Additional knowledge in maintenance and service of UV/Vis and atomic absorption spectroscopy units and general lab equipment and glassware.
  • Time management and organization of multiple tasks are essential.
Salary

AUPE Class Level 8 Step 1 $25.69/hour
