A health services organization is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I to join their lab team in High River. The role is part-time with responsibilities including specimen handling, testing, and reporting. Qualified candidates should have completed an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program, possess skills in phlebotomy and order entry, and ideally have at least one year of experience in a rural laboratory setting. As a member of the interdisciplinary team this position is responsible for working all shifts and on‑call (as needed). Reporting directly to the on‑site senior technologist and the Regional Rural Supervisor, the MLT will be responsible for providing exemplary patient care by applying the regional policies and procedures. The scope of practice is a continuum ranging from basic to highly complex procedures and activities within the laboratory department. In accordance with Health Information Act (HIA), Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) and other privacy legislation in effect the incumbent shall comply at all times with APL / AHS’s Information Privacy and Information Security policies.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Experience with Phlebotomy, Order Entry and Sample Handling within an Accessioning/ Pre‑Exam Lab Department – A combination of Education and Training will be considered. Experience using Microsoft programs.
Minimum 1 year experience as a MLA within the last 3 years in a Rural Zone laboratory or Urgent Care Centre Lab is an asset.
