Job description
Type of position: Regular
Your future role on the team

BBA is looking for a motivated Junior Mine Waste and/or Geotechnical Engineer to join our Tailings and Mine Waste team from our Toronto office. In this role, you’ll help design, analyze, and manage mine waste facilities such as tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and water management structures throughout all project stages—from development and construction to operations, closure, and reclamation. You’ll assist senior engineers with geotechnical investigations, design work, and data analysis, ensuring all work meets safety and regulatory standards. The position includes both office and field work, including report preparation, design documentation, and construction support.

Collaboration is key—you’ll work with multidisciplinary teams (mining, civil, environmental, and process engineers) and occasionally interact with clients and regulators. Over time, you’ll gain hands‑on experience in risk assessments, dam safety reviews, and performance monitoring of mine waste structures. This is a great opportunity to develop your technical and project management skills while contributing to safe, sustainable, and innovative solutions in mine waste management.

Responsibilities
  • Technical management and direction of geotechnical site investigations, supervision of investigation activities, laboratory materials testing and preparing technical reports
  • Review and supervision of civil/geotechnical related construction activities
  • Geotechnical engineering analysis including slope stability, seepage and deformation analysis
  • Rock Mechanics applications, including field mapping, geotechnical core logging, rock mass characterization, rock stability assessment, and reinforcement design
  • Geotechnical instrumentation planning, installation supervision, monitoring and reporting of results
  • Participating in multidisciplinary project teams, including ensuring the technical quality of deliverables
  • Collaborating and participating in technical discussions with team members and clients
  • Participate in proposal efforts
  • Travel to project sites within Canada or internationally

Qualifications
  • B.Sc. or Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Civil Engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering is required
  • Must be working towards gaining your P.Eng License, or have your P.Eng license
  • 1–3 years of relevant professional geotechnical engineering experience
  • Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil and rock mechanics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, technical writing experience as well as presentation skills is a must
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a team
  • Familiarity with geotechnical design software: SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, Rocscience software suite, FLAC, and other geotechnical software is an advantage
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites
  • Asset: Bilingual in English and/or French
