As a Junior Project Accountant, you will play a key role in managing full-cycle project accounting for a diverse portfolio of development projects. From initial job setup and budgeting to cost tracking, financial reporting, and final closeout, you’ll ensure accuracy, transparency, and efficiency across all project financials. This role is highly collaborative, working closely with project managers, construction teams, and leadership to drive informed decision-making and maintain strong financial controls.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage full-cycle project accounting from setup through closeout, ensuring accurate and timely financial data.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports to track financial performance.
- Oversee project costing activities including cost coding reviews, purchase orders, and cost reconciliations.
- Review and process contracts, subcontracts, and change orders in alignment with project terms.
- Track and record change orders while analyzing budget variances to support proactive cost control.
- Prepare, review, and distribute monthly progress and lender draw packages.
- Produce project health reports that highlight cost, schedule, variance, and risk metrics.
- Collaborate with project managers, schedulers, and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment across cost, schedule, and financial data.
- Conduct profitability, performance, and trend analyses to support strategic decision-making.
- Report on contract changes, KPIs, and other business metrics to support divisional and organizational goals.
- Participate in ad hoc financial analyses, special projects, and other duties as required.
- Maintain accurate, timely cost and performance data across all assigned projects.
- Present project financial information to various levels of management and participate actively in project meetings.
What You Must Have
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Project Accountant in the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of project costing, budget control, and contract management.
- Proficiency with accounting software (Eclipse experience is an asset).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting and construction teams.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to travel locally for site visits (5–10%).
