Company Description

Midlite Powerline Construction specializes in powerline, substation, and fiber optic construction and maintenance. With projects ranging from 25kV to 260kV, Midlite has a proven track record across Western Canada. Recently, the company has focused on servicing heavy industry in Alberta, including Oilsands and SAGD operators. Despite this focus, Midlite continues to undertake large-scale transmission and distribution projects for regional utility and telecommunications companies.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Fort McMurray, AB, for Journeyman Powerline Technicians and 3rd/4th Year Apprentices. The role involves day-to-day tasks such as constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground powerlines, substations, and related infrastructure. Responsibilities also include performing inspections, troubleshooting electrical issues, and ensuring all safety protocols are adhered to at all times. Collaborating with team members, operating equipment, and working in various outdoor conditions are essential parts of the job.

Qualifications
  • Experience in powerline construction and maintenance, including overhead and underground systems
  • Knowledge of substation construction and maintenance, as well as fiber optic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Adherence to safety protocols and best practices in the industry
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Certification as a Journeyman Powerline Technician or enrollment in a 3rd/4th Year Apprenticeship program
  • Ability to work in various outdoor conditions, including extreme weather
  • Valid driver\'s license and ability to operate relevant equipment
  • Previous experience in heavy industrial settings such as oilsands operations is a plus
