IT DevOps & Cloud Developer Summer Student 2026

Location: Onsite at 31 Caroline Street N., Waterloo, ON
Employment Term: Full Time Contract from May 4, 2026 - August 21, 2026
Position Reports To: Associate Director, Software and Data Services
Number of Vacancies: 1

The starting hourly rate for this position is between $21.50 and $24.00 per hour based on a 37.5 hour work week and commensurate with candidate experience and education. Perimeter’s compensation approach is designed to promote fairness and transparency, ensuring alignment with internal equity and external market benchmarks.

Summer at Perimeter is busy and we need your help. We have summer student positions available throughout the Institute, running from May 4, 2026 to August 21, 2026.

Collaborating with the Associate Director, Software and Data Services, the IT DevOps and Cloud Developer Summer Student is responsible for the delivery of several DevOps projects with the goal of streamlining Perimeter Institute’s development and cloud processes. This will include creating plugins/modules for Perimeter’s content management system and cloud application systems.

What you will do:
  • Development of plugins for OpenSource software systems
  • Development of Integrations between OpenSource Systems and Cloud based systems via APIs
  • Potential projects include:
    • Plugin development in Indico (open source event management system)
    • Integrating Perimeter website with SaaS services
    • Converting APEX code to flows in Salesforce (Perimeter’s CRM)
    • Updating and running Perimeter's AI transcription benchmarks
    • Upgrading and managing Perimeter's video encoding and (AI) transcription pipeline
What you need to have
  • 2nd year+ student registered in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related program. Students in other STEM disciplines, like Physics or Math, with solid programing skills will also be considered
  • Experience with version control systems (Git, Github)
  • Experience with web APIs
  • HTML and CSS skills
  • Understanding of how to setup and configure cloud-based software
  • Linux administration, scripting and automation

If we’re being greedy, we’d also like:

  • Experience or understanding of using AI embedding models (RAG)
  • Familiarity with Cloud Service or DevOps concepts
  • Experience using REACT
