Job description
Overview

Alberta Health Services, Central Zone, and the Department of Cardiology at the Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, invites applications for a Cardiologist with interventional skills to establish a full‑time practice in the community of Red Deer. Key accountabilities of this position will include: Inpatient & Outpatient Services, Emergency Consults, and Specialist On-Call Coverage. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and planning of Red Deer's new cardiac cath labs.

Training

Trainees who will be completing their training by July 2027 are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

Obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;

  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies;
  • Establish and maintain full time community based practice within the community;
  • Provide call assistance as per call schedules, including full time participation in the Cardiology call schedule, as required;
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the Zone Clinical Department of Medicine;
  • Participate in relevant Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs;
  • Contribute to and participate in other administrative responsibilities, as assigned;
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care;

Once chosen, the successful candidate may choose to operate their business by joining an existing independent outpatient practice or form an independent outpatient office of their own. This is the candidate's independent business decision and will not be managed through the recruitment process.

Certification and Qualifications
  • Have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (RCPSC);
  • Have specialty certification or equivalent in Cardiology, or be currently enrolled in a Cardiology Residency Program;
  • Recent and relevant experience in all areas of practice required, as the Most Responsible Physician
