Our clientele includes major oil and gas producers in Canada and globally, and we are actively engaged in diverse sweet gas, sour gas, conventional oil, heavy oil facility, and pipeline projects.

Job Overview

We are seeking all levels of Instrumentation and Controls Engineers to support the design and integration of control systems for multi-discipline engineering projects. Operating in Calgary's dynamic environment, the successful candidate will manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables. The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will play a critical role in translating practical concepts into fully functional, commission-ready systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed design packages for instrumentation and control systems, including specifications, datasheets, and drawings.
  • Create and review I & C engineering documentation including: Control Architecture / Communication Network drawings, LOOP drawings / IO schematics / IO lists, Shut down keys, Control narratives, Logic Diagrams, P&ID development, Instrument Datasheets.
  • Perform instrument selection, sizing, and procurement to meet project and industry standards.
  • Design and implement control system architectures, including PLC/DCS systems and HMI configurations. Collaborate with multi-discipline teams to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation and controls into overall project designs.
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing systems and support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. Prepare technical reports, studies, and documentation to support project execution. Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs.
  • Prior experience in sweet and sour gas projects, heavy oil, pipeline within an EPCM environment.
  • Canadian exposure to heavy oil or sweet and sour gas facility design and construction, pipelines and communication systems.
  • Experience with greenfield design, brownfield design, FEED, Construction Work Packages, RFIs, Requisitions.
  • Familiarity with industry as well as client specifications, codes, and regulatory requirements.
Education and Qualifications
  • A degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Control Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, preferably in the oil and gas or industrial sectors.
  • Competence in control system design and review software and tools such as AutoCAD, NavisWorks, Bluebeam and various vendor sizing software.
  • Experience with programming and configuring PLC/DCS systems from vendors like Rockwell, Siemens, or Emerson.
  • Experience with measurement and control devices (transmitters, valves, etc) and datasheets.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards (e.g., ISA, API, CSA).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Experience with SPI would be an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with APEGA is preferred.
