Overview

The School of Health and Human Services invites applications for one (1) instructor in the online Nursing Unit Clerk program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). They will foster supportive, inclusive, and culturally safe learning environments that respect the diverse needs and experiences of students.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Creates and maintains a positive, inclusive, and student-centered online learning environment.
  • Uses varied teaching strategies (lectures, discussions, seminars, case studies) to support diverse learning styles and cultural contexts.
  • Applies adult education principles, universal design for learning (UDL), and educational technology to enhance accessibility.
  • Supervises projects and placements to encourage collaboration, equity, and professional growth.
  • Provides individualized support through tutorials, advising, and scheduled office hours.
  • Clearly communicates course expectations, policies, and requirements.
  • Evaluates students using fair, transparent, and inclusive assessment methods.
  • Provides timely, constructive feedback to support student growth and confidence.
  • Submits grades within established timelines.
  • Updates curriculum to reflect current practice, diverse perspectives, and cultural safety.
  • Coordinates student practice placements with attention to equitable access.
  • Prepares accessible teaching materials and inclusive course outlines.
  • Engages with advisory committees, professional bodies, and community partners to maintain program relevance.
  • Participates in planning, recruitment, retention, meetings, committees, and College events.
  • Supports diversity and belonging across the College community.
  • Builds respectful, collaborative relationships with colleagues and staff.
  • Acts with professionalism, integrity, and cultural humility.
  • Engages in professional development, including training in online learning, anti-racist education, Indigenous perspectives, and accessibility.
  • Networks with colleagues to advance inclusivity in health education.
  • Maintains student records per College policy, with confidentiality and respect.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator, School Chair, or Dean.

  • Knowledge of current nursing unit clerk practices and health care environments.
  • Familiarity with adult education principles and UDL.
  • Proficiency in online instruction, Learning Management Systems, and patient information systems.
  • Ability to create culturally safe, accessible, and inclusive learning environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise in curriculum development and presenting course materials in a diverse learning context.
  • Skill in evaluating students impartially and providing constructive feedback.
  • Capacity to supervise projects and placements effectively.

  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with colleagues, staff, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, cultural humility, and confidentiality in all interactions.
Education and Experience
  • Certificate or diploma in a related health program (e.g., Health Unit Coordinator, Health Information Management, Nursing Unit Clerk).
  • Recent health care experience, preferably as a Nursing Unit Clerk (or equivalent).
  • Teaching and curriculum development experience in post-secondary education is an asset, especially with inclusive and student-centered approaches.
  • Completion of the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program and / or equivalent professional development in post-secondary teaching is an asset.
  • Experience or training in online program delivery, inclusive education, intercultural communication, or accessibility is an asset.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

This is a non-regular, part-time (30%) position, commencing October 20, 2025, and ending July 31, 2026. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,763.30 - $4,428.06 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
