Job description

The Health Care Assistant Program at Capilano University invites applications for one non-regular clinical instructor to teach in-person out of our Sechelt campus. The successful candidate may be offered further sections in the future. This is a unionized position that will begin on January 27, 2026.

The successful candidates will teach clinical courses within the Health Care Assistant Program which aims to equip students with personal care skills within the parameters of the health care assistant role. The instructors will guide a preceptorship practicum group of no more than 8 students and support them as they develop caregiver skills that maintain and promote the comfort, safety, and independence of individuals in care facilities and community contexts.

Courses will be taught in person at our Sechelt campus and at a partner organization in the community during the spring term.

Schedule

HCA 110 – Practice Experience in Multi-level and/or Complex Care

The successful candidate will have the following teaching duties:

  • Teach subjects and skills related to your area of expertise and in accordance with the role of the HCA in BC.
  • Demonstrate appropriate and safe care of clients, including personal care and transfers.
  • Evaluate student learning through assessments during clinical supervision.
  • Provide support to students on a daily basis as they gradually increase their workload.

The successful candidate will also be expected to support the Department’s initiatives and provide service to Departmental, Faculty, and University wide committees. These duties include:

  • Create and update course materials, outlines, and curriculum.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and events at the program, department, faculty, and university levels.
