Job description
High-Level Description

This position is directly accountable for providing direction and technical hydraulics engineering expertise for pipeline and pipeline facility operations, optimization and troubleshooting, as well as development, management, and execution of proposals and programs that are associated with enhancing the process safety of the pipeline system in accordance with the department goals.

Specific Accountabilities
  • Conduct hydraulic studies using modelling software to analyze pipeline systems for design and maintenance issues, develop solutions, and issue formal technical recommendations.
  • Provide engineering support by actively participating in hydraulics engineering activities related to operation and help troubleshoot hydraulics problems within assigned asset areas.
  • Review and provide broad technical direction in development of transient & steady-state hydraulic analysis models and technical reports. Conduct technical reviews, with a focus on hydraulics engineering, at various stages in project life cycle gating process.
  • Execute and/or review feasibility studies, conceptual designs, process studies, and detail engineering designs to ensure designs comply with Enbridge quality processes, standards, and industry regulations.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives with respect to hydraulic design and processes.
  • Responsible for ensuring that effective and proactive communication is maintained with all internal and external stakeholders. Initiate and lead meetings, correspondence, and discussions with appropriate teams as required.
  • Guide project teams to ensure competitive designs and operational reliability.
  • Support the implementation and execution of technical recommendations.
  • Liaise with multi-discipline teams to assist with company engineering initiatives.
  • Actively participate in development of appropriate documentation outlining design parameters, assumptions, and results so that the project scope can be easily communicated to other relevant departments within Enbridge.
  • Actively participate in engineering activities to support Project Execution teams in order to ensure that project requirements are met and exceeded where technically justified.
  • Actively participate in scope development of pipeline and facility projects.
  • Participate in PHA reviews as needed.
Scope/Dimensions
  • Focus is working on complex technical issues in support of an assigned area of the enterprise.
  • Provides a specialized technical knowledge.
  • Makes decisions not usually subject to technical review, except those involving large sums of money or long-range objectives. Participates in and provides support to design, operability, constructability, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required
  • Demonstrated senior level technical competence in hydraulic design and engineering within the oil & gas industry.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively complex hydraulic engineering experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of hydraulic modelling software: Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS).
  • Working knowledge of liquid pipeline and facility operations.
  • Must be registered or qualify to register as a P.Eng. in the Province of Alberta.
  • Effective two-way communication capability including excellent English oral and written skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with peers, internal stakeholders, upper-level management, vendors, and service providers.
  • Ability to regularly shift between planned and unplanned activities, while remaining effective despite disruptive effects.
  • Substantial aptitude to manage multiple assignments while meeting established deadlines.
  • Well-developed problem solving, decision-making, organization and planning skills.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with assessment methodologies such as PHA, HAZOP, or LOPA.
Working Conditions
  • Office environment with minimal travel to construction and or operating sites in Canada or the US.
