Job description

Human Resources/Labour Relations Business Partner

Our client, a proudly Canadian icon in the food manufacturing industry, is growing their HR team. In this role, you will be a trusted partner and strategic advisor—leveraging strong relationships across all levels of the organization to deliver effective HR and labour relations solutions that support business goals and foster a positive, high-performing workplace culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor, providing day-to-day coaching and strategic consultation to leaders at all levels on labour relations, talent management, organizational design, and policy interpretation.
  • Lead and support positive labour relations by participating in the negotiation, administration, and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Manage and resolve employee grievances and workplace disputes effectively and in alignment with labour law and organizational policy.
  • Play a central role in shaping and executing labour relations strategies that promote trust, accountability, and employee engagement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to design and implement people strategies that support organizational goals.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to enhance service delivery through streamlined or automated HR processes.
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert in labour relations, delivering training and guidance to leaders and supervisors on collective agreement interpretation and best practices in managing unionized environments.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in Human Resources in a unionized environment. Working knowledge of collective agreements is required. Previous experience participating in collective bargaining.
  • In-depth working knowledge of HR related legislation, including but not limited to the Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA); Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Ontario Labour Relations Act (OLRA) etc.
  • Team player with excellent leadership skills, able to motivate others, negotiate effectively, and interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical, with problem-identification and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work / excel in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and effective multi-tasking is essential.
  • Ability to build strong business acumen and apply this knowledge when making recommendations.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential and contentious issues.
  • Demonstrated competency in several aspects of HR (i.e. succession planning, performance management, labour relations, coaching.
