Job description
HEALTH AND SAFETY COORDINATOR

Sun Gro Horticulture is seeking a passionate, meticulous, and self‑driven Health and Safety Coordinator to implement, monitor, and continuously improve workplace health and safety practices across harvesting sites in the southern Manitoba. Reporting to the Bog Manager, you will play a key role in accident prevention, regulatory compliance, and the promotion of a strong, proactive safety culture.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Implement and maintain health and safety prevention programs across the assigned territory.
  • Keep all health and safety management system documentation up to date.
  • Lead health and safety meetings, train teams, and raise employee awareness of best practices.
  • Participate in the investigation incidents/accidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial/federal health and safety laws and regulations, as well as internal company standards.
  • Work closely with management to integrate health and safety into all daily operations and to implement health and safety plans.
  • Maintain accurate health and safety documentation and produce required reports.
  • Assist in monitoring the IMS system (Intelex) entries, and work with management in managing and escalating incident submissions.
  • Act as a resource person during internal and external audits.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and return‑to‑work processes in collaboration with the company’s human resources department.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 1‑3 years in a similar role, ideally in an industrial, agricultural, or manufacturing setting, is an asset.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills including experience in facilitation, training, giving presentations and writing reports.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid driver’s license required.
