Overview

HR Generalist – Calgary, AB, Canada (Hybrid). To meet the needs of the Church, we seek to build teams that represent the diverse perspectives, broad life experiences and backgrounds of our global Church membership. With that in mind, we encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

The Human Resources team consists of employees who are builders of capability within the Lord's talent storehouse who hasten the cause of the Master by drawing, enabling, and improving talent, and by shaping the Church's work environment, which allows employees to give their best to the Lord.

Provides professional level human resource generalist support to management and employees in the following activities: benefits, compensation, employee relations, performance management, policy and procedures, recruitment and employment, safety, training/organizational development, and special HR projects. Typically serves as HR contact for assigned group/area.

The purpose of this role is to support HR core/essential work for the Canada Area requiring a deep professional knowledge of HR. Employees at this level work under minimal supervision, have comprehensive working knowledge, and handle complex issues and problems.

This role reports to Canada Area HR Manager with frequent partnership with other workforce and area leaders, area HR team, and headquarters departments.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver HR policy administration and support.
  • Deliver basic workforce relations management including basic investigations and dispute resolution.
  • Process and validate HR system transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide first-level support to managers and employees. Maintain and update employee personnel records.
  • Process employee job record updates (promotions, position updates, etc.).
  • Lead talent acquisition and onboarding efforts including posting jobs, screening applicants, interviewing, conducting onboarding worthiness checks, delivering offer letters, provisioning, etc.
  • Facilitate compensation related efforts including compensation coaching, promotions, in-line adjustments, etc.
  • Provide time and absence administration as well as payroll support including payroll processes, final pay, allowances, annual leave conversion, issue resolution, paid leave appeal review, etc.
  • Provide consulting and administrative support related to compensation and benefits including issue resolution, analysis, coaching, proposals, approvals, etc.
  • Lead compliance efforts with local employment requirements.
  • Conduct FTE reconciliation.
  • Administer offboarding processes including exit surveys.
  • Support accident/incident reporting.
  • Implement and track alternative work arrangements.
  • Provision of service missionaries.
  • Lead reduction in force administration and support.
  • Create and deliver area workforce communications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or related field
  • 4-6 years of Human Resources related experience
  • Solid working knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices with a compliance mindset.
  • Familiarity of best practices of HR functions.
  • Ability to utilize HR systems and other technology systems.
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset.
  • Ability to be organized and manage time well with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deliverables effectively.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service through intermediate interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and provide effective solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to apply policy to business situations.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • There may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for extended periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment.
