The Housing Assistant will provide both administration and field support in the coordination of the housing program on Seine River First Nation. Under the guidance and direction of the Housing Manager in accordance with SRFN policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the administrative support for both the Manager and Housing Committee as well as various programs such as Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), etc. and the First Nation.

The Housing Assistant will assist the Housing Program Manager in monitoring repairs, replacements, and inspections in order to maintain SRFN owned assets in a good state and supports the manager by handling daily operations like tenant communication, maintenance coordination, rental agreement paperwork, and record-keeping for community residential buildings, ensuring smooth upkeep and resident satisfaction while gaining experience for a housing program role. Key duties involve administrative tasks, fielding tenant issues, coordinating vendors, and assisting with financial reports, requiring strong organization, communication, and problem-solving skills, often with a high school diploma or relevant coursework.

Core Responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison, responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and managing tenant records.
  • Help with rental agreements, process applications, and maintain accurate property and tenant files.
  • Coordinate repairs, schedule vendors, and oversee general property upkeep.
  • Assist manager with rent arrears collection, accounts receivable, processing invoices, and budget tracking where required.
  • Support property inspections, manage vendor lists, and help with emergency planning.
Key Skills & Qualifications
  • Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12)
  • Proficiency with word processing software (Microsoft Office)
  • Willingness to be trained in all aspects of job requirements
  • Ability to speak Ojibway, an asset
  • General knowledge of community services, customs and traditions
  • Valid driver’s “G” license will be considered an asset
  • A criminal reference check satisfactory to the First Nation
