Employment Type: Full-Time

Pay Rate: $20.50/hour

Job Overview

As a Healthcare Access Control Security Officer, you will play an essential role in protecting the safety of patients, staff, and visitors by operating AI-powered weapon detection systems at Valley Regional Hospital. This role requires professionalism, excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure while providing a welcoming environment for all.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor AI-based weapon detection and access control systems at hospital entry points.
  • Engage with patients, visitors, and staff in a professional and empathetic manner during screenings.
  • Respond to system alerts, conduct secondary screenings, and escalate incidents as required.
  • Provide clear directions and reassurance to those entering the facility.
  • Maintain accurate incident logs and system performance records.
  • Collaborate with healthcare staff, security teams, and law enforcement.
  • Follow infection control and hospital safety protocols.
  • Contribute to a culture of respect, inclusivity, and safety within the hospital.
Requirements (Must-Haves)
  • Must reside in Kentville or nearby, NS
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotational shifts (days/nights)
  • Valid Security License (Nova Scotia regulations)
  • Standard First Aid & CPR (CSA Approved) certification
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods and respond quickly to incidents
Preferred / Assets
  • Experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or access control
  • Strong conflict de-escalation and customer service skills
  • Certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • If not currently held, candidates can complete Paladin’s training program prior to onboarding (company-paid, with a 6-month commitment)
  • Comfort with AI-based security systems
