We are currently seeking a Health Safety and Environment Supervisor to support our QEII project in Halifax NS. The QEII Halifax Infirmary Expansion Program (HIEP) is a 1.2 million square foot expansion of the Province of Nova Scotia’s existing QEII campus being completed under a complex P3 contract structure. PCL Constructors Canada Inc. is collaborating with multiple partners from across the country on this single largest healthcare infrastructure project in Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities
  • Implements and supports project HSE plans ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and adherence to safe work practices while maintaining a strong proactive presence in the field.
  • Identifies, evaluates, develops and delivers project-specific HSE training.
  • Recognizes, evaluates and advises on hazard identification.
  • Leads and conducts project HSE inspections and monitors the quality and effectiveness of inspections and trade safety plans.
  • Develops and evaluates the efficiency of the project emergency response plan, site-specific security requirements and the environmental plan.
  • Monitors and audits trade contractor HSE performance.
  • Participates in on-site investigative processes and evaluating corrective actions taken.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Coaches, trains and mentors HSE Coordinators, PCL staff, trade contractors and workers.
Qualifications
  • Secondary education (e.g., bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate) in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Holds safety designation.
  • 5 years of experience in a health and safety role in a related industry. Previous supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Solid understanding of applicable occupational health, safety and environmental legislation and HSE processes.
  • Conflict resolution skills with the ability to problem-solve.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop influence and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong working knowledge of construction processes and terminology.
  • Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
Working Conditions
  • Attendance at both open and close shift meetings will be required.
  • Weekend shifts may be required based on project needs, so availability on weekends is essential.
