Overview

Job Title: Health and Safety Manager

We are seeking a dynamic and adaptable Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) Leader to oversee and guide the activities of HS&E teams. You will excel at building strong relationships with operational teams to drive continuous HS&E improvements. You possess a keen self-awareness and strive to understand both yourself and others. As a problem solver and effective communicator, you continuously seek innovative solutions to support projects. This role supports our client's Infrastructure division and is based in Surrey, BC.

Responsibilities
  • Implement health & safety programs on projects, ensuring adherence to safety procedures by the operations team and subcontractors.
  • Work with the health & safety program manager to enhance the health & safety program.
  • Participate in senior management, stakeholder, and client executive meetings as needed.
  • Manage health and safety resources assigned to projects.
  • Lead investigations for major incidents across projects with support from the Health & Safety Program Manager.
  • Coordinate with section managers, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Ensure on-the-spot task-specific safety training and competency assessments are completed for site workers.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies during worksite visits.
  • Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to address site-specific challenges and improve safety practices.
  • Ensure task-specific hazard assessments are completed, communicated, and followed, including confined space hazard assessments, fall protection plans, and ground disturbance permits.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of relevant Health, Safety, and Environment experience in a leadership or mentoring role.
  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure, construction, or related industries, with a focus on health and safety.
  • Possession or pursuit of CRSP, CHSO, or other professional HS&E designation.
  • Thorough understanding of commercial construction practices, techniques, and equipment, with experience at the worksite level.
  • Knowledge of local government health & safety acts, policies, regulations, codes, and practices relevant to commercial and light industrial construction.
  • Ability to influence work planning and execution by field/operations personnel to achieve HS&E objectives.
  • Commitment to meeting the needs of internal and external customers, acting with their interests in mind.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with projects over 400 million - mega projects.
  • Proficiency in safety, environmental safety, and health & safety practices.
Work Environment

This role supports our client's Infrastructure division and is based in Surrey, BC. It involves collaborating with various project managers and supervisors to address site-specific challenges and improve safety practices. The work environment includes liaising with regulatory bodies during worksite visits and ensuring the completion of task-specific hazard assessments.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $125000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
