Position Overview

As a member of the Corporate Team, the HSE Coordinator is responsible for implementing health, safety, and environmental management policies and procedures at all branch locations in Western Canada. They oversee our safety management systems and ensure Barricades and Signs complies with legal and provincial requirements in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the ideal candidate will be a team player who promotes a positive organizational culture while working to eliminate health and safety hazards from the workplace.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct health and safety audits and maintain necessary certifications (i.e. COR)
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation for all branch locations
  • Update contractor prequalification web services (Avetta, ISNetworld, etc) and maintain subcontractor prequalification documents
  • Maintain a list of fleet trucks, vehicle insurance, and update insurance policies with necessary employee information
  • Maintain safety fitness certificate program (inspections, maintenance, logbooks) for registered vehicles
  • Work with insurance brokers and gather information when required (i.e. vehicle insurance, driver information, request for certificates of insurance, etc.)
  • Oversee WCB accounts and handle injured worker claims management
  • Prepare and deliver HSE training material for new and returning employees
  • Complete company site visits to review HSE conditions and update necessary policies / procedures (twice a year at each branch)
  • Develop and implement company safety programs
  • Maintain clear and concise safety training records and company statistics
  • Investigate health and safety incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective measures to prevent reoccurrence
  • Perform risk management assessments and formal hazard assessments for all jobs, tasks and positions
  • Participate in health and safety committee and complete monthly safety reports
  • Develop an Emergency Response Plan for each branch location
  • Create and update all safe work practices and procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Preferably 5+ years experience as a safety professional or in a related field with HSA and NCSO designation
  • Up-to-date safety credentials are recommended (CRSP or CSP)
  • Has a broad knowledge of federal, provincial, and local regulations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Computer skills developed to a high degree for accuracy and data input
  • Working knowledge of general safety and human resources procedures
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Hours of Work

The typical work schedule will be Monday through Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm, although this position will require travel and the ability to be flexible concerning working hours.
