Responsibilities
- Manage technical services team, distributed through multiple locations.
- Organize and structure the department to best deliver technical services to internal and external stakeholders and for future scaling in line with the Company’s growth forecasts.
- Engagement with Sales, Operations, Finance, ITC, Security, and HR to support business objectives.
- Management, work planning, scheduling, and review of work to deliver function-specific outputs and defined milestones to business stakeholders.
- Definition, setting, monitoring, and management of Objective and Key Results (OKRs) for the department, teams, and individuals.
- Participation in the setting of the group and department budget and managing to budget with monthly reviews.
- Provision of leadership for the maintenance of appropriate levels of discipline, monitored controls, and correction to maintain consistency to brand values, culture, and work schedule.
- Regular review and management of the Skills Matrix to ensure the department has the appropriate skills and capacity required to deliver business objectives.
- Mentoring, coaching, and provisioning of constructive feedback to department staff.
- Management of multiple concurrent multi-disciplinary projects with weekly review, prioritizing and reporting, resulting in on-time and on-budget completion.
- Management and technical oversight of design reviews and key milestones to ensure quality standards are maintained.
- Oversee feasibility analysis, project scoping, resource planning, and cost estimating for project activities.
- Management of compliance and certification through collaboration with the quality departments.
- Management of actions, issues, risks, opportunities, dependencies through the project duration.
- Analysis of lessons learned and improvement actions.
- Management and sign-off of contractual, technical change control, customer acceptance, and staged invoicing of NRE deliverables.
- Architecture and design authority responsibility for solutions and products from inception to end of life.
- Oversee and approve the technical output of the department ensuring compliance with customer requirements and specifications.
- Ensure designs are optimized for purpose, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Provide subject matter expertise for engineering design in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, and Software engineering as appropriate.
- Maintain best-in-class subject matter expertise, coordinating knowledge sharing and technical training.
- Ensure smooth NPI handover to production, including BOM, build instructions, training, and ongoing support.
- Control and separation of existing and newly created IPR in design and documentation.
- Customer-facing involvement in the promotion of the business and understanding customer technology needs.
- Delivery of Opportunity Support Requests (OSRs) on time and to agreed standards.
- Preparation and review of product business cases in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Participation in the promotion of technical value proposition to prospects and customers.
- Validation and sign-off of NRE estimations from across the Company.
- Management progression via a professional engineering route.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a formal technical / engineering qualification, preferably a degree in a Mechanical, Electro-Mechanical or Electronics Engineering Discipline.
- Strong knowledge of Process and Project Management.
- Evidence of continuous ongoing self-development & education.
- Lean or Six Sigma preferred.
- Full & clean driving license.
- Engineering Management role with a minimum of 5+ years track record in senior leadership.
- Experience managing remote and international teams.
- Proven experience in people management of multi-disciplinary technical teams.
- Experienced budget setter / holder.
- Experience with product designs to meet industry and regulatory compliance standards.
- Customer / market facing technical experience in an industrial B2B market sector.
- Proven experience in leading and project managing innovation, NPD, and NPI.
- Experience in maintaining and working in a professional methodology aligned to the ISO : 9001 quality standard.
- Sector experience in one or more of: Defense, Medical, Transport, Automation, Energy or Communications.
- Experience in the preparation and presentation of technical proposals.
- Experience working for OKRs.
