Kron Technologies is a high-performance, multidisciplinary hardware company that builds virtually everything in-house, from software and firmware for FPGAs and SOCs, to electronics, mechanics, and optics. We make innovative, high-speed imaging tools for demanding professionals, and we do it with a small, ambitious team of engineers who thrive on ownership and building things from the ground up.
The Role:
As an Electronics Designer at Kron Technologies, you'll play a critical role in the design of our current and future high-speed cameras, leading the design, layout, and bring-up of high-speed, high-performance printed circuit boards (PCBs) for our high-speed cameras. You’ll work closely with hardware, FPGA, and mechanical teams to ensure electrical performance and manufacturability.
What You'll Do:
- Plan and evaluate PCB layer stackups for high-speed interfaces such as memory (DDR3–DDR5), PCIe, USB 3, HDMI, and LVDS interfaces, supporting data rates up to 12.5Gbps.
- Collaborate with the hardware and FPGA teams to select components to achieve desired functionality, and define CPU/FPGA pinouts optimized for signal integrity and routing efficiency.
- Define board size and layout to align with the mechanical design of the overall system.
- Place components strategically to ensure layout efficiency, manufacturability, and performance.
- Route PCB designs while meeting signal integrity and EMC requirements, maintaining impedance control, and achieving length matching where required.
- Create and maintain schematic symbols and footprints for use across multiple projects.
- Manage and update the company’s schematic and PCB libraries to support consistent, high-quality design standards.
- Write firmware for microcontrollers that handle various low-level functions such as power management, thermal management, and lens control.
- Perform board bring up, testing, and debugging.
What we’re looking for:
- A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Experience with high-speed digital design and PCB layout best practices.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Altium designer.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces and signal integrity considerations.
- Experience with embedded firmware, using C/C++.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
Nice to have:
- Experience with FPGAs and SOCs.
- Knowledge of thermal and power considerations in dense designs.
- Experience with DFM/DFT best practices.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC considerations.
- Familiarity with mechanical design integration.
- Knowledgeable of MSP430 microcontrollers.
Perks, Compensation and Benefits:
As a full time employee, you will be compensated on a salary based on experience and skills, between $80,000 - $95,000 CAD per year. You will receive full benefits that include health, dental, optical, prescription, RRSP with matching and a Health/Lifestyle Spending Account. The use of the shop space is open to all employees for personal projects. We offer educational benefits for our employees that wish to enhance their careers. We often have company lunches and pot-lucks and other group activities.
If this role sounds like a fit, please include a short note or cover letter in your application-we’d love to hear what excites you about this opportunity.
