Job Description

We are currently seeking a General Manager for one of the largest locally owned/operated industrial businesses of its kind in Western Canada. They have numerous locations across Canada and are recognized for their long-standing reputation in metal recycling.

The successful candidate will be an experienced people leader with a strong record of customer service. The GM will oversee all operations at the Burnaby location, lead the team, and build long-term, growth-focused customer relationships in the region.

Responsibilities
  • Lead supervisors and staff to ensure smooth facility operations.
  • Oversee environmental, health, and safety programs to maintain a safe environment for employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Manage HR processes for the facility, including training and performance management.
  • Work with the Regional Manager and VP of Operations to set operating plans, considering equipment needs, environmental requirements, operational demands, costs, and profitability.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and strengthen existing customer relationships to grow volume and market share.
  • Help develop standard operating procedures for the facility.
  • Track and report operational and service data, working with corporate experts to improve key performance measures.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the corporate business development team and other General Managers across the company (or partner locations) to expand the customer base and service offerings
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of management experience in operations or distribution, including people leadership and safety oversight.
  • 3+ years of experience running a profitcenter business model.
  • Strong operations background, including experience with heavy equipment and maintenance.
  • Proven ability to develop business and secure new customers.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement and quality programs.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and other software tools.
  • Strong relationship building skills, both internally and externally.
  • Experience in the metal processing industry is an asset.
  • A related degree or diploma is an asset.
  • Strong collaboration and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset and ability to grow a business.
