We are currently looking for someone whose main role during the school year is to drive for field trips, medical appointments, and student departures/arrivals. Other roles of this position during the school year include maintenance work and school vehicle care.
What We Offer
- Hours of work: Sunday-Thursday generally 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm with the exception of picking up and dropping off students from the airport during travel periods.
- Potential for hours during the day dependent on appointments/field trips
- Please note, this position will not be given hours over winter break, spring break and summer holidays. Summer work in housekeeping may be available.
- On the job training
- $25.00 per hour plus 4% in lieu
- Potential to participate in other areas such as coaching and driving for sports teams
The duties and responsibilities of driving and maintenance in this role may include, but are not limited to
- Safely drive students to and from airports and ferries as needed at the beginning and end of the year, during winter and spring breaks and weekend trips.
- Safely drive students to various school activities and field trips as needed.
- Perform Pre-trip and Post-trip inspection reports, reporting to Transportation Supervisor when concerns arise.
- Comply with all school and government regulations, laws and policies and good safety practices.
- Regular communication with Transportation Team and attend meetings as required.
- Checking the condition of all Brookes vehicles and report any issues to maintenance.
- Maintain your class 4 driver's license and drive Brookes vehicles as needed.
- Completing minor repairs and maintenance of the facilities.
- Thorough weekly cleaning of all Brookes vehicles (6 in total) and daily cleaning upkeep of vehicles.
- Completing minor plumbing repairs (unclogging of sinks)
- Assisting to maintain outside garbage shed area to ensure proper disposal and a clean space.
- Completing garbage runs to facility when necessary (Taking garbage to a garbage facility)
- Basic drywall repair and painting.
- Moving heavy furniture (up to 50 lbs).
- Assembling and disassembling furniture (ie beds in the dorms, stage).
- Assisting with event set up of furniture and displays.
- Weather preparedness of the school grounds such as salting and snow removal, clearing of leaves and pine needles)
- General grounds maintenance (weeding, fence repairs, window cleaning)
The ideal candidate has the following skills and attributes
- Ability to lift items up to 50 lbs.
- Able to perform manual tasks and physical demands as required within the duties such as periods of standing, assisting with luggage, lifting, bending, and twisting
- Motivated and takes pleasure in doing well on the job
- Punctual, reliable and versatile
- Positive with a caring attitude
- Can work cooperatively and with minimal supervision
- Communicates clearly and respectfully with parents, school staff, students and the general public in a courteous, professional manner
- Flexible and adaptable to changing deadlines and priorities
- Trustworthy and maintains confidentiality.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Required to complete and successfully pass a Ministry Criminal Record check for working with vulnerable adults and children.
- Must hold a current BC Class 4 or Class 2 Driver's License.
- Required to provide an annual driver's abstract.
- Standard First Aid with CPR (C) an asset (if you do not have this, you will be required to take this upon acceptance of the job).
- WHMIS certification is an asset (if you do not have this, you will be required to take this upon acceptance of the job).
