Forensic Video Technician

Naturally, Campbell River – Located on Vancouver Island, the City of Campbell River offers a rare combination of a welcoming small-town feel with large-city amenities. We are a 45-minute drive from the winter and summer activities of Mount Washington, and just minutes from more than 100 km of all levels of mountain biking and hiking trails, plus easy access to the ocean, rivers and lakes for sports fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding and whale watching.

The role: Taking direction from the Police Services Supervisor and reporting to the Police Services Supervisor and RCMP Municipal Manager, the Forensic Video Technician will perform specialized technical work utilizing forensic video techniques in support of the Police Services department and the Asset Management department clients. The incumbent will review videos with a technical lens and process a variety of video evidence for investigative and court purposes. The incumbent will also provide administrative support, such as answering inquiries, word processing, and preparing and maintaining various documents and files, to the staff in the Forensic Identification Section.

What we offer: The rate of pay for this Permanent Full-Time CUPE bargaining unit position is $36.57 per hour, based on a 35-hour work week.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Completion of two (2) year accredited technical diploma program in video technology, broadcast television or another discipline relevant to the field of forensic video technology.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s licence, and produce and maintain a clean driver’s abstract, as per City policy.
  • Minimum three (3) years related experience in video technology role, preferably in law enforcement environment, within the last five (5) years.
  • Must achieve and maintain RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Screening. This clearance requires candidates to meet the following criteria:
    • Be a Canadian citizen or have a permanent resident status in Canada.
    • Individuals with permanent resident status must have resided (been physically present) in Canada for 3 (1,095 days) out of the last 5 years as a permanent resident.

Preferred Criteria:

  • Completion of certification program for Forensic Video Technicians.
