What is the role of a Financial Planner?

As a Financial Planner, you will focus on developing and deepening mass‑affluent client relationships by providing high quality advice and service. As a dedicated entrepreneur, you know how to build and leverage your external and internal networks and centres of influence, and understand that growing a practice is all about building new and long‑term relationships.

  • External clients – Proactively engage individuals outside the Scotiabank network, showcasing the unique value a Financial Planner brings.
  • Internal clients – Deepen relationships with existing Scotiabank clients who may have limited interaction with the bank, cultivating meaningful connections and positioning yourself as a trusted advisor.

As a Financial Planner you are:

  • Driven by purpose and determination, prioritizing personalized investment and financial planning advice.
  • Enjoy the flexibility of meeting clients outside the office on a schedule that suits they and you.
  • Valuing a collective Scotiabank framework that benefits clients and your practice.
Responsibilities

Following a comprehensive financial planning framework, you will:

  • Drive investment sales and new client acquisition while adhering to Global Sales Principles, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish business development opportunities with prospects and clients within the assigned market area.
  • Promote the development and sustainable growth of proprietary investment business in the assigned market area.
  • Execute business development plans for mass‑affluent prospects and existing clients, facilitating investment solutions and referrals.
  • Provide client‑centric investment solutions within a financial planning framework, conducting outbound communications and proactive outreach.
  • Participate actively in local professional and community events, delivering information sessions and financial seminars to expand your network.
  • Maintain a market profile and network with investment industry specialists while managing independent marketing activities.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in financial planning and investment sales.
  • Current accreditation and good standing for CIRO licensing requirements (Investments Funds in Canada or Canadian Securities Course).
  • Completed Personal Financial Planning (PFP®) and/or Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation.
  • Proven networking, client acquisition and interpersonal skills; experience building and maintaining Centres of Influence (COIs).
  • Goal‑oriented and entrepreneurial, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Extensive knowledge of market trends, economic conditions, and the regulatory environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to meet clients and prospects within the district.
What’s in it for you?
  • An entrepreneurial culture with freedom to develop your career.
  • A fast‑paced, flexible work environment where you set your own hours and meet clients as convenient.
  • A compensation structure that rewards growing and maintaining your client base.
  • Access to leading‑edge resources, marketing support, mobile technology, CRM, portfolio, and financial planning software.
  • The ability to build long‑lasting client relationships through exceptional advice and service.
  • A partnership with retail branches and access to Scotia Global Asset Management for excellent client experience.
