Job summary

A leading engineering company in Peterborough, Ontario, is seeking a Service Engineer to join their Field Service Team. This role involves providing in-field support for Naval Customers, performing maintenance and repairs on large-scale winches and cranes. Candidates should have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and proven technical experience. You will need to manage customer relations and ensure the highest standards of service. Job Title: Service Engineer – Field Service Representative (FSR)

Working Pattern: Fulltime

Working location: Peterborough, Ontario

The Service Engineer forms part of the Field Service Team. This opportunity has arisen to join this exciting world class team in providing in field support to our Naval Customers. Our local site design’s, assembles, and service’s a variety of industrial large-scale winches and cranes that are hydraulically and electrically driven for different Naval applications.

As an FSR for Rolls‑Royce, you will be a proactive, self‑motivated individual and provide in‑service support and technical oversite to our Naval Customers. You will be responsible for supporting equipment installation, acceptance testing, maintenance, repairs, and some diagnosis on equipment with the aim of minimizing equipment downtime to ensure customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for ensuring that specific maintenance programs are professionally administered. You will be required to liaise with the customer and maintaining relevant service records. You will provide guidance on the best practices and methods to use at our local facility, and when called upon at other Rolls‑Royce facilities. You will also be responsible to work with onsite engineering to support such things as test procedures, product development and production queries where a higher level of problem complexity is encountered.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, repair, and commissioning work on equipment in accordance with the technical documentation
  • Create reports documenting the work performed
  • Extensive travel, up to 50% (both domestic and international) is required, sometimes at short notice - often required to spend multiple weeks away from home
  • Establishing and maintaining close liaison with all relevant sections of customer organization, and Rolls‑Royce management
  • Review engineering changes and their effect on the product in the field, including maintenance manual updates and coordinate communication plans with customers on impact on operations
  • Define and review processes of the local engineering group to ensure they fall within best practices
  • Review cases forwarded by the manufacturing engineering department where they require more specialized consideration
  • Review technical issues with customers and vendors as required
  • Develop, Review, and Edit Technical Documents as needed to support the site needs
  • Support site programs through Integration, Design Verification, and Factory Acceptation Testing
Basic Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, comparable STEM Degree or applicable experience
  • Proven technical report writing experience in a structured engineering environment
  • Proven ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking on a range of technical problems and to make balanced decisions in complex situations and with incomplete information
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation
  • Demonstrated experience operating and servicing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment with a high degree of mechanical aptitude
  • In order to be considered for this role you must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
  • In order to be considered for this role you must obtain Canadian Controlled Goods and Reliability Security Clearance
Preferred Requirements
  • Must be able to clearly communicate with the engineering team and maintain an awareness of current efforts, as well as guide others on technical matters
  • Proven ability to operate independently within cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills
