As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Estimator/Coordinator to join our dynamic team.

Job Description: As an Estimator/Coordinator at Caron Equipment, you will be a key contributor to our project success by providing accurate cost estimates and coordinating various aspects of our projects. This role demands meticulous attention to detail, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. You will work closely with project managers, clients, and suppliers to ensure projects are executed within budget and adhere to designated timelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop estimates in accordance with company procedures, including quantity take-off from construction drawings where applicable.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and requirements in preparation for pricing and analyze subcontractor requirements.
  • Review project sites prior to price preparation.
  • Identify inherent risks and opportunities, including strategies to create a competitive edge.
  • Collaborate with clients or consultants to address issues that require clarification or elaboration.
  • Develop a preliminary project construction schedule as a basis for pricing time-related activities, utilizing input from subcontractors and internal staff.
  • Prepare a summary of issues and participate in a detailed estimate review.
  • Lead or participate in the closing of the estimate and submission of the tender.
  • Assist in the development of post-tender submissions and negotiations as required.
  • Perform estimate-related oral and/or written communications with clients.
  • Obtain pricing from suppliers and subcontractors, compiling information into the estimate.
  • Formulate all costs for tender submission – labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
  • Oversee the distribution of documentation upon project award.
  • Collaborate with operations to drive project success and learning.
  • Perform Post Bid / Post Project Analysis and ensure communication of lessons learned.
  • Assist with prequalification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs as required.
  • Protect all proprietary information.
  • Maintain databases of labour rates, material pricing, and project costs for future reference.
  • Ensure the accuracy of bid costs relative to actual costs of work performed.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in heavy civil infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents.
  • Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals for typical items and scopes where design and/or schematics have been provided.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
  • Experience with estimating software.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage time and formulate plans to meet multiple deadlines within a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
  • Adaptability to a flexible work schedule when needed to meet deadlines.

Preferred:

  • University Degree, College Diploma, or Trades Background – or equivalent experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience as an Estimator/Coordinator for large civil and municipal projects.
  • Ability to work at remote or in-town worksites on a rotational basis.
