We’re looking for an Engineer-in-Training in the structural field to join our Toronto office. In this role, you’ll be responsible for design tasks and construction reviews across a wide range of structural elements and building types, while collaborating closely with architects, consultants, and contractors. Primary Responsibilities
  • Presents structural approaches to architects and other engineers at a task coordination level.
  • Coordinates structural design with architectural and non-structural engineering requirements.
  • Coordinates construction‑stage solutions with contractor and design team.
Carries out design tasks across a wide range of common design elements, including:
  • Determining structural loading, serviceability limits and other design requirements.
  • Analyzing structural systems using manual methods.
  • Running, checking and validating own computer models.
  • Designing structural elements.
  • Creating and checking calculations and documentation for design.
  • Creating drafting mark‑ups for project technicians.
  • Performing basic edits of models and drawings in Revit.
  • Reviewing drawings for correct representation of design.
  • Carries out construction reviews across wide range of construction elements, including reviewing shop drawings, submittals and RFIs; attending site reviews within areas of experience; and preparing site reports.
How you fit into the team
  • You report directly to a Studio Director.
  • You work closely with one or more Studio Teams.
What you bring to the table
  • Degree (bachelor’s or above) in civil/structural engineering.
  • Minimum two years of relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Registration as an EIT or equivalent trainee status.
  • Professional development plan for P.E. registration within two years.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to prepare, read, and interpret technical documentation independently.
  • Ability to clearly communicate the structural implications of architectural, servicing, and construction approaches.
  • Able to assess situations, follow established procedures, and know when to propose alternate solutions.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental structural concepts, including loads, systems, and elements.
  • Ability to sketch structural diagrams that illustrate load paths, internal forces, deflected shapes, and typical connection details across major structural materials.
  • Familiarity with building codes and material design standards at the element level, including how to derive gravity and lateral loads.
  • Hands‑on project experience or formal training in the design and detailing of common systems and elements in concrete, steel, wood, and masonry.
  • Understands general construction methods in common materials.
  • Proficiency with common structural design software tools.
