Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma and at least one year of relevant EHS experience. Flexibility for off-shifts is required, and knowledge of Alberta OHS Regulations is preferred.

Job description

To support Red Deer Shop’s efforts to provide a safe environment for our employees, contractors, visitors and the surrounding community in cooperation with facility and corporate Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) objectives, targets and initiatives. This position will have responsibility for ensuring compliance with internal and external EH&S requirements at Red Deer and supports HR with new employee EHS Learning Paths.

Scope of Work
  • This leadership position will interact with hourly employees, HR, corporate functional leaders, facility leadership, regulatory officials, medical professionals, and all other positions within the Repair Center, as well as Operations staff throughout the organization. Key functional groups and customers for this position are EH&S, Operations and external regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities

In collaboration with the local EHS Manager and Corporate EHS team, key responsibilities include:

SAFETY

  • Maintaining the safety training calendar. Coordinating the timely completion of calendar tasks for employees and new hires & updating PeopleSoft with training documentation.
  • Weekly review with EHS Manager of completed training tasks and timely completion of missed employees.
  • Investigation of employee complaints, and workplace related incidents.
  • Conduct shop floor observations of compliance requirements with input of identified/closed corrective actions into ETQ.
  • Participate with prescribed DSBO audits (daily, weekly).
  • Maintaining the PeopleSoft and Compliance Calendar tasks with monthly updates to the EHS Manager to include but not limited to:
    • Emergency Equipment Inspections
    • Weekly Confined Space Permit audits
    • Coordinate and execute quarterly confined space rescue drills
    • Participating in Monthly Safety Committee Meetings
    • Participate in monthly EHS cross functional team meeting(s)
    • Supporting resource for CGRD site in absence of EHS Manager
    • Participate and support Continuous Improvement and Quality initiatives in collaboration with EHS, CI and Quality managers.
    • Participate in MOC reviews.
ENVIRONMENTAL
  • Inventory and schedule hazardous waste disposal, ensure labeling and storage requirements are being followed.
  • Participate in MOC reviews
  • Collaborate with Corporate Sustainability team to complete:
    • Fuel Usage Log, Paint Waste Reduction Initiatives, Recycling
    • Input sustainability data into the database as needed.
  • Support task-based EHS coverage on off-shift for employees and/or transfers
  • Any tasks not mentioned here at the discretion of the EHS Manager and/or Plant Manager.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required (including certifications):

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1+ years EHS experience in an industrial / manufacturing environment or 3 years working experience in railcar repair industry with a demonstrated interest in EHS
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Basic familiarity with AAR/FRA regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta OHS Regulations
  • Experience creating / delivering training content preferred.
