Job Summary

Serve as a special needs resource consultant to early childhood settings to support children 0-12 years of age with a variety of special support needs.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies and liaises with community services available to children and their families in the area of Early Childhood Services.
  • Provides support services to child, family and community settings.
  • Promotes public awareness of Community Living Toronto and ConnectABILITY.
  • Collaborates with other geographic networks and community agencies in the identification, development, implementation and evaluation of the training needs of staff, parents and others.
  • Participates as a member of the intake team (internal and external).
  • Provides recommendations to community settings and familiarizes them with strategies for enhancing child and/or family development.
  • Provides training to early childhood professionals, parents and others.
  • Supervises students completing field placement.
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in Early Childhood Studies, plus additional coursework or training related to supporting young children with special needs (e.g. Autism Spectrum Disorder and Social Behaviour and Sensory/Motor Development).
  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Studies or related area would be considered equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the field of early childhood education, including working with young children (birth‑12 years) with special needs and their families in early learning environments such as: Child Care, Early On Centres, Drop‑In Programs, Respite Programs, Specialized Agencies / Services.
  • Experience in consultation and teaching adults would be an asset.
