Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Director, Physical Security to build, lead and manage Aecon’s physical security strategy across multiple office locations in Canada and internationally. This role is critical to ensure the safety and security of our employees, facilities, and assets. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in corporate security operations, risk management, and compliance, with a strong understanding of Canadian security standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive physical security program (e.g, governance, policies, standards, and procedures) for all Canadian and international office locations.
  • Act as the enterprise subject‑matter expert on physical security risks, threats, and mitigation strategies.
  • Establish enterprise physical security standards and design principles for access control, video surveillance, perimeter protection, alarm, and monitoring systems across all locations.
  • Align programs with recognized industry standards and best practices (e.g., ASIS, ISO, CPTED, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with relevant local, provincial/state, federal, and international security regulations.
  • Conduct physical security risk assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare and present physical security risk assessments, audits, and reports to senior leadership.
  • Oversee physical security operations, including access control, surveillance systems, emergency response, and incident management.
  • Manage relationships with external security vendors and law enforcement agencies.
  • Lead investigations related to security incidents, theft, vandalism, workplace violence, and site breaches.
  • Lead crisis management and business continuity planning for physical security incidents.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including Information Security and Facilities teams, to align security strategies across the enterprise.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in physical security management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record managing security for multiple office locations across Canada and/or internationally.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian security standards, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to travel within Canada or internationally, as required.
  • Bilingual proficiency an asset (specify language, French, Spanish, any other for international locations).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Canadian Government Security Clearance (Secret or higher).
  • Experience working with government agencies or regulated industries.
  • Certifications such as CPP (Certified Protection Professional) or PSP (Physical Security Professional).
  • A background in military or law enforcement would be considered an asset.
