DIRECTOR OF WORSHIP MINISTRIES

Start date: January 1, 2026
Reports to: Lead pastor
Time: 20-25 hrs per week
Salary Range: $25-30 per hour (based on experience*); Ext. health benefits incl.

1. Summary of the role

The Worship Director is responsible for guiding the congregation in worship and leading the numerous worship volunteers (vocalists, musicians, and tech team). In collaboration with the Lead Pastor, the Worship Director coordinates worship services by recommending song selections and liturgy, ensuring that worship is multigenerational and diverse, and leading Sunday worship services in a Spirit-filled and enthusiastic way. The position offers flexible hours and remuneration.

*There is potential advancement to the position of Pastor of Worship if the candidate has relevant experience and training.

2. Qualifications
  • Has a clear faith in Jesus Christ and seeks to grow in relationship with Him.
  • Has relevant worship and theological training and experience.
  • Is either familiar with or willing to learn and support the Reformed tradition and its teachings.
  • Is willing to become a member of Willoughby Church.
  • Has enthusiasm for working with volunteers and is able to train and mentor them.
  • Is familiar with (or willing to learn) the necessary worship technology: sound, ProPresenter, and livestream.
  • Is familiar with both traditional and contemporary music and worship styles.
  • Is a team player, characterized by honesty, vulnerability, reliability, humility, openness to learning and feedback, and trustworthy.
  • Has good communication skills, is detail-oriented, and is able to direct and communicate with clarity.
3. Expectations & Responsibilities
A. Direction and Leadership
  • i. Structure and direct Sunday worship services with diverse music and liturgy, managing the skills of worship volunteers, leading or participating in three (3) worship services per month with sensitivity to specific congregational needs.
  • ii. Recruit, train and manage worship teams as needed, providing support and skills development.
  • iii. Work under the supervision and direction of the Lead Pastor to plan and execute worship services, ensuring a cohesive and inspiring worship experience.
B. Connection and Engagement
  • i. Regularly connect with volunteers for support and encouragement.
  • ii. Coordinate and lead weekly and Sunday morning practices, with both vision and prayer.
  • iii. Seek feedback from the volunteers, as well as the congregation, with an open mind to their input and suggestions.
C. Administration
  • i. Coordinate volunteers and build worship teams.
  • ii. Manage schedules, service materials, and publications.
  • iii. Develop (and adhere to) a worship budget as approved by the Lead Pastor and in consultation with the Finance Committee.
  • iv. Participate in staff meetings, and collaborate with staff on upcoming Sunday services, special services, and occasionally other events related to the life of the church.
  • v. Attend all congregational meetings.
  • vi. Seek out at least one professional development opportunity per year to build musical and/or leadership skills.
