Job description

Location: North Cape, Prince Edward Island, Canada

About WEICan:

The Wind Energy Institute of Canada (WEICan) is a non-profit organization founded in 1981, dedicated to advancing wind energy across Canada through research, testing, innovation, and collaboration. Located on Canada’s east coast on the northwest tip of Prince Edward Island, our institute benefits from an ideal wind research setting, with 300 degrees of water exposure, typical wind speeds of 8.9 m/s at 80 m, and frequent icing occurrences each year.

WEICan owns and operates an independent renewable energy power plant, which consists of a 10 MW Wind R&D Park. Included in the power plant are 223 kWh of energy storage, 109 kW of bifacial and monofacial PV, meteorological towers, and a small wind test bed, all of which produce more than 8000 data points every second. This infrastructure serves as our research laboratory and allows us to accumulate a wealth of data and nurture a team of experts, enabling us to provide practical opportunities for government agencies, private/public sector businesses, and academic institutions to explore, demonstrate, test, and validate wind energy technologies and concepts in a real-world setting.

About the Role:

We’re seeking a versatile and motivated professional to join our team in a technology leadership capacity. The exact scope of the role will be shaped around the strengths and interests of the successful candidate. Whether your background is in leading technology teams, managing special projects, or a mix of both, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
  • Overseeing technology initiatives and projects across the organization
  • Coordinating and delivering special projects with cross-functional teams
  • Supporting digital transformation and process improvement efforts
  • Advising on technology strategy, planning, and implementation
  • Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation and efficiency
  • Providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to team members
Desired Education and Experience:

We’re looking for candidates who bring a combination of the following skills and experiences. You don’t need to have them all—if you have strengths in several areas, we may be able to work with you to define the role:

  • Preferably at a Master’s level degree
  • Engineering background, preferably in sustainable energy and wind technologies
  • Experience in technology management, project coordination, or related fields
  • Familiarity with current technology trends and best practices
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience leading teams or managing projects is an asset
What we offer:
  • A flexible role tailored to your strengths and interests
  • Opportunity to shape technology strategy and drive impactful projects
  • Collaborative and supportive work environment
  • Competitive compensation and benefit
Diversity Statement:

WEICan commits to achieving inclusive excellence through continually championing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. We encourage applications from Indigenous persons, persons of Black/African descent, members of other racialized groups, persons with disabilities, women, persons identifying as members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and all candidates who would contribute to the diversity of our community.
