Overview

What is the opportunity?
This is an 18-month maternity leave contract position offering a unique opportunity to lead product marketing strategies for RBC Insurance’s diverse portfolio: Life & Living Benefits, Wealth, Home & Auto, Travel, and Group Benefit Solutions. As Marketing Director, you will lead a team of four to drive B2B (sales force enablement) and B2C (direct-to-consumer) initiatives, positioning RBC Insurance as a leader in the Canadian market. This role is focused on building and executing a strategic plan that drives the business forward, focusing on innovative campaigns that enhance brand loyalty, sales growth, and client engagement.

What will you do?

  • Product Marketing Leadership
    • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for all insurance product lines, ensuring clear value propositions, positioning, and messaging tailored to advisors, brokers, and prospects.
    • Foster relationships with product development, enablement, sales, and distribution teams to align marketing initiatives with business goals and market trends.
    • Entrepreneurial and creative approach to developing new ideas that will stretch the product team and push the boundaries within the industry.
    • Lead marketing budget and align to evolving key priorities. Using data-driven decision making to impact an effective ROI.
    • Set clear and challenging goals while committing to improved performance YoY.
  • B2B & B2C Strategy
    • Empower and enable RBC’s proprietary sales teams, third-party advisors and brokers with insights, tools, and differentiated campaigns to drive lead generation and conversion.
    • Design consumer-centric marketing programs (digital, social, content, and traditional media) to educate Canadians on insurance solutions and grow direct leads and sales.
    • Foster cross-functional collaboration with RBC’s broader ecosystem (e.g., Wealth Management, Group Benefits) to leverage synergies.
  • Team & Stakeholder Leadership
    • Mentor and develop a team of marketers, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and results-driven performance.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., Legal, Compliance, Analytics) and external agencies/vendors.
    • Manage budgets, campaign ROI, and performance metrics to optimize marketing investments.
    • Nimble and adapting approach to lead the team through changing organizational objectives and visions.
  • Innovation & Market Insights
    • Monitor competitive landscapes, consumer behavior, and industry trends to identify growth opportunities.
    • Champion digital transformation and data-driven decision-making to enhance campaign effectiveness and differentiation.
    • Improve marketing effectiveness through keen focus on predictive modeling and AI.
    • Lead frequent innovative test and learn campaigns to source new solutions to improve ROI.

What you need to succeed?

  • Experience: 10+ years in marketing, with 5+ years in a leadership role (insurance, financial services, or related regulated industries preferred).
  • Expertise: Proven success in product marketing, B2B/B2C campaign development, and sales enablement. Deep understanding of digital marketing, CRM, and analytics.
  • Leadership: Track record of building high-performing teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Skills: Strategic thinker with exceptional communication, creative problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
