Job summary

A government services consulting firm is seeking an Intermediate DevOps/Cloud Engineer to design and support cloud environments and digital products. The ideal candidate will have experience in DevSecOps pipeline management, cloud architecture design, and application runtime environment provisioning. Responsibilities include troubleshooting application issues and maintaining security standards. Candidates with relevant cloud certifications are preferred. The position is onsite in Toronto, requiring collaboration with both technical and business teams.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years hands-on experience deploying and optimizing applications on public cloud.
  • Experience with managed file transfer systems or FTP/SFTP is an asset.
  • Development experience or exposure to DataPower gateway is an asset.

Description

Responsibilities: Design, build and support cloud environments to create digital products. Monitor and assess the performance of applications in a cloud environment to ensure solutions are available. Create, test and implement safeguards to maintain data integrity and protect against unauthorized access.

General Skills: Experience in one of the leading cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. Experience in maintaining complex Linux cloud environments (CentOS, Ubuntu, CoreOS) to support modern web technologies (LAMP, MEAN, Drupal, Elasticsearch). Experience setting up development environments using tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Maven and Jenkins. Experience in scripting languages like Python, Bash, PHP, Java, JavaScript, Node. Experience in build tools such as Git, Ansible, Chef, Puppet for continuous integration. Knowledge of Docker, building and using APIs, applying industry web, architectural and security standards and best practices. Experience in mobile device management for various versions of cellular and tablets.

This position is listed as Onsite; the resource is expected to work 7.25 hours per calendar day between standard working hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM (excluding lunch breaks) every Monday to Friday inclusive at the identified Ontario Public Service (OPS) office location.

Roles and Responsibilities

This role will support the design and implementation of the SUS platform on public cloud IaaS. The DevOps/Cloud Engineer will create and update service templates used for provisioning cloud resources and installing software required for running the business applications. The Engineer will also set up the DevSecOps pipeline for the build and deployment of ministry applications across various runtime environments. The role will set up, configure and maintain common platform components such as logging, auditing, monitoring, alerting and vulnerability detection.

The role will support the operations team in troubleshooting application issues related to the platform components.

Skill Set Requirements

Cloud Architecture – 30%
  • 3+ years hands‑on experience deploying and optimizing applications on public cloud. Experience on private cloud will be a plus.
  • Experience building Terraform templates and Ansible playbooks is a must-have.
  • Extensive knowledge of the cloud architecture and costing model. Candidates with cloud architecture certification on Azure or AWS preferred. Experience on Kubernetes based cloud platform (such as OpenShift) highly desirable.
N-tier application hosting – 20%
  • Multiple years of experience on traditional n-tier application architecture and technologies
  • 2+ years working experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
  • 2+ years working experience with IBM WebSphere/Liberty/NDM
  • 2+ years technical working experience supporting application/web servers
  • Experience with Managed File Transfer systems or FTP/SFTP system an asset
  • Development experience or exposure to DataPower gateway an asset
  • Development experience with Informatica, IBM MQ, IBM ACE an asset
  • General exposure to network topologies (firewalls, load balancers, DNS)
DevSecOps – 25%
  • 2+ years working experience with DevSecOps tools for building and deploying traditional as well as containerized workloads
  • Hands‑on experience with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub, Nexus, Urban Code Deploy, Urban Code Velocity, etc. desirable
  • Experience setting up SAST, DAST and Container Vulnerability Scanning tools and associated mitigation processes highly desirable
Public Sector Experience – 5%
  • Experience working within the OPS, BPS or other government preferred
