Peck Tech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. since 2020, specializes in advanced sensing, monitoring, and control technologies for both open-pit and underground mining. Based in Montreal, the multidisciplinary team brings deep expertise across electrical, mechanical, software, and mining engineering. Peck Tech is leading the development of autonomous blasthole drilling and precision mining innovations for Caterpillar’s global mining customers.

As the Design Team Leader for the Peck Tech Digital Technology team, you will provide project management and strategic leadership to a cross functional team delivering VOC-driven solutions to define customer functional requirements through proof-of-concept deployment, integration, testing, verification, and validation.

What You Will Do

  • Act as a liaison between mining customers and the Peck Tech Digital Technology team.
  • Capture customer requirements and mining customer value to generate proof-of-concept commercial proposals.
  • Assist with developing project scope to address business challenges and opportunities.
  • Coordinate resources across sales and marketing, product development groups, value chain and manufacturing.
  • Oversee project progress and costs; communicate status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; address and resolve problems.
  • Communicate validated customer functional requirements to Caterpillar MineStar and extended NPI processes.
  • Direct project staffing; motivate and develop project team members.
  • Provide engineering input for projects when required.
  • Identify and execute opportunities for continuous improvement in Peck Tech processes.
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

  • Product Design and Development: Ability to design, build, and develop a new product from concept to production.

What Will Set You Apart (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering with Mechanical option, or Master of Science in Mining Engineering.
  • Experience in mining technology digital prototype project management.
  • Experience in engineering-focused project management and prototype development team leadership.
  • Experience with mining processes, especially autonomous drilling and blasting.
  • Experience in generating commercial proposals.
  • Ability to work in remote mining areas as needed.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with customers to explain product technically during sales presentations.
  • Prior experience with Caterpillar dealerships is highly preferred.
